Our regular guy left at the end of December due to a headcount reduction because the facility will be closing in a few months. I felt that sampling so close to the previous event would not be representative because of all of the wet weather we had last winter. I know we want to see what's coming from our property and I felt that any pollutants would have been so diluted that they may not be detectable or maybe even totally washed away. After the spring came and some of the rain subsided, I requested sampling supplies from my lab (early May) expecting to have the correct parameters for sampling on a somewhat regular basis, but it did not turn out that way. I live only 15 miles from the facility, and we have not had any measurable rainfall in close to two weeks, but there have been instances of flooding here in Greensboro. Most of the rain comes in the evening hours after I have been at home for several hours. I am watching closely for an opportunity to sample, but there are only small chances in the forecast for at least the next seven days. Now that I have seen the issues that can be created by waiting to sample, I intend to do my best to get the samples more toward the middle of the required sampling periods so that we do not run into this situation again. As soon as I can get samples, I will notify you at the time I have them picked up by the lab and I will expedite the lab results to you once I receive them. I sincerely apologize for my poor judgment in this case, and I give you my word it won't happen again. If you need to discuss this, please feel free to call me on my cell at(336) 830-4851. One initial question I have is why you felt sampling on February 20th wouldn't have been representative of your facility's stormwater discharge? Either way, you're still responsible for fulfilling the permit requirements. We're now into July, but there's definitely still time to sample two different monitoring events with at least 60 days in between. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know.
