To whom it may concern,
I am submitting our annual DMR yearly summary per the requirements of our storm water
permitting. As it is listed, we've had two consecutive exceedances triggering tier two
monitoring. Please allow,me to point out that the first sample taken was during a very high
volume storm of short duration. It is believed that this storm "churned" up the soil and drove
copious amounts of sediment into our sampling stream. This can be seen in the high TSS
reading. No abnormal erosion was noted in our inspection of the area. In addition, a recent
fertilizer addition may have contributed to the elevated phosphorus reading.
In general, and in discussions with the Central Office in Raleigh, we continue to monitor water
sources that enter and run through our property. These sources have been proven to contain
higher than threshold levels of Zn, confirmed by a state approved lab. These sources also have a
phosphorus content at levels less than the threshold, but nonetheless add to the total amount that
is not relative to our production and manufacturing activities.
With that said, Carus continues to research areas of improvement and implement those
improvements. As can be seen in the second monitoring event the levels are greatly reduced.
