Hyco Lake Afterbay Flow Release
Dear Mr. Mead.
August 20, 1998
Pursuant to the telephone conversation between you and Joanie Cooke of CP&L's
Environmental Services Section, the following information is being provided to you The
Roxboro facility is amending the operating procedure for the afterbay to include a
provision for low level conditions The portion of the procedure that will address such
conditions is provided below:
Any time the afterbay lake level is below elevation 3 75. 0 feet, it is necessary that
action be taken There are five general guidelines that dictate the philosophy to
be used during low afterbay lake level conditions.
1. Under severe hydrologic conditions (elevations below 375 0 feet),
reduce minimum release to 2 cfs.
2 Provide verbal notification of reduction in release to the North
Carolina Division of Water Resources.
3 Provide a follow-up written notification to the North Carolina
Division of Water Resources.
4 Return to normal release amount of 10 cfs when hydrologic
conditions allow
5 No notification to the North Carolina Division of Water Resources of
return to normal release amount necessary

Based on the referenced telephone conversation, this procedural amendment
adequately addresses all the compulsory actions for low level conditions And as
such shall be implemented by the facility.
Please contact Joanie Cooke at (919) 362-3553, if there are any questions
concerning the information.
Sincerely,
Vel
