Good afternoon,
This email serves to formally notify your office that a stormwater sample collected from Outfall 002 at Joseph T.
Ryerson&Son, Inc. (5435 Hovis Rd, Charlotte, NC 28208)on June 19,2026,exceeded the benchmark for zinc,with
a measured concentration of 0.148 mg/L.
After investigation,the site identified the likely sources as high traffic areas,tire dust, and asphalt degradation in
the adjacent parking lot.The site is in the process of getting approval to conduct maintenance on their stormwater
detention ponds,which they anticipate will lower concentrations of zinc and other analytes. Furthermore,there is
a proposed plan to replace the back parking lot which will eliminate any asphalt degradation.The facility will
review and reinforce good housekeeping practices with staff to help prevent future occurrences.
All details of this TierTwo response, includingthe exceedance date and value, inspection date, personnel
involved, actions taken, and implementation dates,will be formally documented in the Stormwater Pollution
Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
