These drainage outfails discharge into Quankey Creek and an unnamed tributary of Marsh Swamp (see General Location Map and Site Map). Outfall I The majority of the runoff from areas supporting industrial activity at the Airport occurs on the west side of the Airport in Drainage Area 1 (noted as DA-1 in Figure 2). Drainage Area 1 includes two sub-drainage areas, DA-la and DA-1b. DA-la includes runoff from a portion of the parallel taxiway, as well as the majority of the aircraft parking apron. This sub-drainage area also includes runoff from the fuel farm, terminal building, vehicle parking lot, T-hangars, and conventional corporate hangars. Drainage Area 1a also includes off-site run-on from adjacent farmland north and south of Gregory Farm Road. Runoff from this area is collected through a system of grass lined drainage ditches, drop inlets, and drainage pipe. Runoff from Drainage Area la flows south, into an extended dry detention basin (Basin 1). Basin 1 discharges through an outlet structure and pipe into ditch at Outfall I. Sub-Drainage Area 1 b includes runoff from portions of the runway, parallel taxiway and several connector taxiways. Runoff from the pavement and midfield areas is collected in a series of drop inlets and drainage pipes. This pipe flows to the south end of the parallel taxiway, where it discharges into a ditch at Outfall I. Runoff that is discharged at Outfall I enters an unnamed tributary of Marsh Swamp at the southwest end of the Airport property. This tributary flows south from the Airport to Marsh Swamp. Marsh Swamp flows south, eventually discharging to Beech Swamp, then Fishing Creek, and into the Tar River. Outfall II (proposed representative of Outfalls III, IV,V,and VI) Drainage Area 2 (DA-2) includes the remaining runoff from the aircraft parking apron and portions of the runway and parallel taxiway. Runoff from these areas is collected through a system of grass lined drainage ditches, drop inlets, and drainage pipe. Runoff from Drainage Area 2 flows to the north end of the Airport and into an extended dry detention basin (Basin 2). Basin 2 discharges through an outlet structure and pipe into a naturalized ditch at Outfall II. This ditch flows approximately 900 feet and discharges into Quankey Creek. Quankey Creek flows east from the Airport and discharges into the Roanoke River. The following sections describe the drainage areas to Outfalls III, IV, V, and VI. Similar to Outfall II, these areas drain portions of the parallel taxiway, connector taxiways, runway, and grassed runway safety overruns. Outfall III Drainage Area 3 (DA-3) includes runoff from a small portion of the runway and connector taxiway at the very north end of Runway 20, as well as half of the grassed runway safety overrun. This runoff flows into a small drainage swale on the west side of the runway safety overrun, where it flows to the north and discharges at the end of the graded safety area, at Outfall III. The discharged runoff sheet flows approximately 360 feet through a naturalized area before entering Quankey Creek. Outfall IV Drainage Area 4 (DA-4) includes runoff from a large portion of the runway, parallel taxiway, and several connector taxiways. The runoff from the pavement and midfield areas is collected in a series of drop inlets and drainage pipe. This pipe flows to the east side of the airport property and into an extended dry detention basin (Basin 3). Basin 3 discharges through an outlet structure and pipe into a natural grassed ditch at Outfall IV. This drainage ditch flows towards the northeast, eventually discharging into Quankey Creek. Outfall V Drainage Area 5 (DA-5) includes runoff from a portion of the runway, as well as the grassed runway safety area and safety overrun. Runoff in this area sheet flows off of the pavement and through the grassed safety area, where it is collected in a grassed drainage ditch on the east side of the Airport property. This grassed ditch flows to the southern end of the runway, around the end of the safety overrun, where it discharges at Outfall V, into an unnamed tributary of Marsh Swamp. Drainage Area 5 also includes a small area of off- site run-on from adjacent forested property. Outfall VI Drainage Area 6 (DA-6) includes runoff from a small portion of the runway and connector taxiway at the very south end of Runway 2, as well as half of the grassed runway safety overrun. This runoff flows into a small drainage swale on the west side of the runway safety overrun, where it flows to the south and discharges at the end of the graded safety area, at Outfall VI. The discharged runoff flows directly into the unnamed tributary of Marsh Swamp. • . : ƒ. : ` ` .- / • . .
