AL • 3 ^ 12296 ' l0,NGINE'" \ %' FAN•' NN ,, Irtt Davis CivilSolutions,PA April 2024 20166 NARRATIVE STORM WATER/DETENTION (STORMTECH CHAMBER SYSTEM) MARS HILL UNIVERSITY STUDENT CENTER Mars Hill,North Carolina This project is located on the campus of Mars Hill University on the east side of the existing Student Center on approximately 0.166 acres of land. The subject project generally consists of the construction of a new paved loading dock, new sidewalks, and new concrete additions to the existing quad area with grading, installation of storm drainage utilities and paved or concrete surfaces. These improvements are scattered throughout the student center area and are not contiguous. As a result, a detention system has been designed in an existing grassed area to accumulate the total additional change in surface areas added to the site in the various locations, in an area that will allow the total changes from grassed surfaces to impervious surfaces. Storm water facilities include drop inlets, junction boxes, and connecting piping. These facilities have been designed for the 25-year storm event. Storm water detention is provided utilizing one (1) StormTech below-ground detention facility for storage with outlet structures utilizing orifice and weirs capable of controlling the post-construction runoff for the 1-year, 10-year, and 25-year storm events by reducing the rate of runoff below pre-construction rates. Water quality is provided utilizing the detention basin for storage to control the runoff from the 1- inch storm event with a restricted orifice that will detain the runoff for an extended period. A summary of the pre-construction, post-construction, and detained flows for the regulated design storms is attached. Numbers In parenthesis are PF estimates at lower and upper bounds of the 90%confidence Interval. The probability that precipitation frequency estimates(for a given duration and average recurrence Interval)will be greater than the upper bound(or less than the lower bound)Is 5%.Estimates at upper bounds are not checked against probable maximum precipitation(PMP) estimates and may be higher than currently valid PMP values. Numbers in parenthesis are PF estimates at lower and upper bounds of the 90%confidence interval. The probability that precipitation frequency estimates (for a given duration and average recurrence interval)will be greater than the upper bound(or less than the lower bound)is 5%.Estimates at upper bounds are not checked against probable maximum precipitation(PMP)estimates and may be higher than currently valid PMP values.
