NORTH CAROLINA Director Environmental Quality April 11, 2024 To: Joyce Dishmon,Duke Energy (via email: Joyce.Dishmon@duke-energy.com) Subject: NC DWR—Veolia: "Hydrex 6601" Mayo Steam Electric Power Plant NCS000580 The Aquatic Toxicology Branch, with the Division of Water Resources, has reviewed the SDS sheet, specifically Section 12,provided for the use of the product"Hydrex 6601"as a flocculant at Mayo Steam Electric Power Plant(see attachments). This review has been done per the DWR Guidance for Use of Polyacrylamides,DWR PAM Guidance(htlps://deq.nc.gov/media/3310/download). Surface Water Application Approval for Use: Our review of the provided documents predicts the use of this product, at the stated dosage rate of <10.0 mg/1 will not cause toxic impacts to aquatic life in the receiving stream. This approval relates specifically to the application of this product to the surface waters of the State of NC,under best management practices. This assessment has been evaluated as a single use product. IF products are planned to be utilized conjointly or interchangeably, it could classify this as a more complex use as an additive to the waste stream. IF this is the case, then the ATB would recommend the use of a Full Range Ceriodaphnia dubia Chronic Toxicity Test for documentation of potential toxic effects.
