The North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation (NCFB) is North Carolina's largest general
farm organization, representing the interests of farm and rural people in our State. Please
accept these comments from NCFB in support of the proposed NPDES General Permit
NCG530000 for discharges from seafood packing and rinsing, and aquatic animal operations.
NCFB is pleased that the Division of Water Resources has complied with Session Law 2023-63
and revised the NCG530000 permit to modify the monitoring conditions. Specifically, NCFB
agrees with the inclusion of an annual grab sample of the effluent, and the removal of several
of the sampling parameters.
NCFB does recommend that the permit be made effective for five years as allowed
through the Clean Water Act, with a revised expiration date of November 30, 2028. NCFB would
oppose any other changes to the proposed permit. NCFB feels that the proposed permit
provides adequate environmental protection while allowing continued economic viability of
aquaculture facilities.
Thank you for the opportunity to submit these comments. Should you have any
questions or need for additional information, please contact me at (919) 987-1257 or
