HomeMy WebLinkAboutNCS000590_PGM Tier II Notification SW009_20240311 DUKE Brunswick Nuclear Plant 8470 River Road SE ENERGY,, Southport, NC 28461 MAR 0 7 2024 Serial: RA-24-0079 Mr. Dan Sams, Regional Engineer NC DEQ DEMLR—Wilmington Regional Office 127 Cardinal Drive Wilmington, North Carolina 28405 Reference: Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC — Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Industrial Stormwater NPDES Permit No. NCS000590 Tier II Required Response/Action Brunswick County, North Carolina Dear Mr. Sams, Please accept this letter as the two-week written notification as required by Part D, Condition D- 6, Table 3 (iii) regarding the industrial stormwater system serving the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant. On February 12, 2024, quarterly stormwater samples were collected and analyzed in accordance with NCS000590. Analytical results for ISWO09 outfall were received by Duke Energy on March 5, 2024. Upon review of the results, it was observed that the benchmark for Aluminum was exceeded. The benchmark for Aluminum is 240 lag/L and the analytical result was 549 lag/L. This is the second consecutive sample above benchmark value. Duke Energy will document this exceedance and our response/actions within our SWPPP per Part D, Condition D-6. We will also increase our monitoring frequency to monthly (qualitative and quantitative) and document within our SWPPP the other obligations addressed in Table 3.
