Dear Ms. Myers:
ECS Southeast, LLP (ECS) is pleased to submit this report of the Seasonal High Water Table Determination
(SHWT) for the Carolina Pets Animal Hospital site in Wesley Chapel, Union County, North Carolina. This
report summarizes our findings for the site.
PROJECT UNDERSTANDING
The project site is located along Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road northwest of its intersection with Linden
Glen Drive in Wesley Chapel, Union County, North Carolina. The 2.63-acre site is identified as Union
County GIS Parcel ID 06045009E. ECS previously performed Geotechnical borings and a seasonal high
water table assessment for the site. An additional SHWT determination was requested with respect to
the proposed stormwater control measure (SCM).
The Erosion Control — Phase 1 plan, provided by Urban Design Partners, was utilized as a background for
the attached Figure 1. The soil investigation was conducted by reviewing auger cuttings from a hand
auger.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
ECS conducted a study/investigation of the soils to identify the depth of the seasonal high water table, if
present. The properties and characteristics of the soils retrieved from the boring were observed and
recorded in field notes. The properties include texture, depth, the presence of restrictive horizons, depth to
seasonal high water table, coarse fragments, etc. The assessment was conducted in accordance with
current soil science practices and technology.
SEASONAL HIGH WATER TABLE STUDY
Below is a summary of the soils retrieved from the borings.
SHWT — 1— The surface layer to a depth of approximately 4 inches below ground surface (bgs) was brown
sandy loam with weak, fine, granular structure. The consistence was non -sticky, non -plastic, and friable.
The sub -surface layer from approximately 4 inches to approximately 32 inches bgs was red clay with
moderate, fine, sub -angular blocky structure. The consistence was slightly sticky, slightly plastic, and firm.

The sub -surface layer from approximately 32 inches to approximately 50 inches bgs was multi -colored
sandy loam saprolite, channery slate rock, and rock.
SHWT — 2 — The surface layer to a depth of approximately 3 inches bgs was brown sandy loam with weak,
fine, granular structure. The consistence was non -sticky, non -plastic, and friable. The sub -surface layer from
approximately 3 inches to approximately 32 inches bgs was brown clay loam (including channery slate rock)
with moderate, fine, sub -angular blocky structure. The consistence was slightly sticky, slightly plastic, and
firm. The sub -surface layer from approximately 32 inches to approximately 39 inches bgs was multi -colored
sandy loam saprolite, channery slate rock, and rock.
FINDINGS
SHWT — 1 — Gray mottles, indicative of SHWT, were identified at approximately 32 inches bgs. The
aforementioned mottles are potentially the result of a perched SHWT, or the highly restrictive nature of the
soil, channery slate rock, and rock that occurs within the profile. Auger refusal was met at approximately 50
inches bgs. No water was encountered during the boring. If a more precise measurement of groundwater
fluctuation is needed, the installation of a piezometer and subsequent measurements of groundwater may
be required.
SHWT — 2 — Gray mottles, indicative of SHWT, were identified at approximately 28 inches bgs. The
aforementioned mottles are potentially the result of a perched SHWT, or the highly restrictive nature of the
soil, channery slate rock, and rock that occurs within the profile. Auger refusal was met at approximately 39
inches bgs. No water was encountered during the boring. If a more precise measurement of groundwater
fluctuation is needed, the installation of a piezometer and subsequent measurements of groundwater may
be required.
The type of stormwater management facility designed is based on the depth of the SHWT or confining layer.
The information above may be potentially utilized to determine the type of stormwater management
facility best suited for this site according to the most recent version of the North Carolina Division of Water
Quality Stormwater Best Management Practice Manual.
