The facility has been in operation predating NPDES requirements and was previously unpermitted for stormwater. The facility is renewing their solid waste permit and was made aware of the requirements for a stormwater permit during this process. The facility is expanding operations into adjacent farm fields. Facility personel have already installed berms, level spreaders and outfall markers. The facility recieves septic waste and grease trap waste, dewaters the material and composts the material onsite. The septic and grease waste is mixed with dry feedstock material (wood chips and yard waste). The composted material is used within the owners farm fields. The facility makes Class A compost. Vegetated treatment zones (required by solid waste) are maintained around the compost storage areas. Outfall 2 was also observed to be approximately 50-75 feet from the proposed compost storage areas. Outfall 1 is between 200-300 feet away from the compost storage and processing area. Outfall 1 may recieve water from an onsite septic spray field. It was stated that that spray field is currently not in use. The site has less than 100,000 gallons of storage onsite. There are several silos within the processing area. One contains water, one contains lime, the others are used in the waste processing. There is no secondary containment under the silos, but the processing area is surrounded by berms to prevent any movement of spilled material. The facility is kept neat and well maintained. One hydraulic oil container was noted. The owners do do maintenance on equipment as needed onsite. There is a trough with a sump pump beneath the processing equipment that takes any spilled material and pumps it back into the system.
