Locate waste containers on areas that do not receive substantial amounts of runoff from upland areas and does not drain directly to a storm drain, stream or wetland. 5. Anchor all lightweight items in waste containers during times of high winds. 7. Empty waste containers as needed to prevent overflow. Clean up immediately if containers overflow. 8. Cold season grasses should be no shorter than 4 inches; warm season grasses no shorter than 3 inches. • If the basin must be drained for an emergency or to perform maintenance, the flushing of sediment through the emergency drain should be minimized. • Remove weeds and noxious vegetation by hand or by wiping herbicide. DO not spray. Inspection routines include: • The basin should be inspected once a month after the wet detention pond is established, and within 24 hours after every storm event greater than 1.5 inches. Records should be kept and made available upon request. • Check sediment accumulation in the forebay and main treatment areas. If sediment accumulation has reduced the depth to 75% of the design depth, remove sediment and dispose of it off -site. • Check for weeds and other noxious plants which may choke out desirable vegetation. • Once a year, a dam safety expert should inspect the embankment. • Refer to Appendix C for a sample inspection checklist.
