Permit No.-NCG020088 5013 Denfield Street, Durham Durham County Dear Mr. Smith: Staff from the Division of Water Quality, Surface Water Protection of the Raleigh Regional Office conducted a site visit to Hanson Aggregates, Durham Quarry at 5013 Denfield Street. The assistance and cooperation of Mr. Thomas Thacker was very helpful and appreciated. The following observations were as follow: 1. The Hanson Quarry and its perimeter has been purchased by the City of Durham to be used as a water source for the city. 2. The site is only being used as a stockpile for pre -cleaned crushed stone inventory for sale. The stone is taken from the Hanson Mine in Rougemont and brought to the Denfield Street site for sale. No mining operations are being performed at the 5013 Denfield Street location. 3. This site was found to have stored diesel fuel. The diesel fuel had secondary containment. In the event of any fuel spill, Noble Oil is used for clean up. 4. Stormwater on the site is being channeled via storm drain to an unnamed tributary to Eno River. The only stormwater exposure is stone inventory and old machinery placed throughout the site. The Raleigh Regional Office, surface Water Protection recommend that Hanson Aggregates submit a request for permit rescintion for the 5013 Denfield Street location. If rescintion of your permit is granted, Hanson Aggregates must reapply for a Certificate of Coverage as required byNCG020000, before any mining activity is conducted at this location,. 1628 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1628 919-791-4200 (Telephone) Customer Service 800-623-7748 Mr. Thomas J.
