Teresa Williams (Lead Environmental Field Specialist & ORC) and Mike Garner (Water Chemistry Systems) were present and assisted with the inspection. C. Patterson (Anchor QEA) is the BORC. The facility appeared in compliance with Permit NC0000396 at the time of the inspection. The inspection included Outfalls 001, 0101, 002 (Simple Cycle Discharge), and 001 A & 001 C (Combined Cycle Discharge). Outfalls 001 B & 001 D were decommissioned and removed in the 2021 Permit Modification. Outfall 005 was decommissioned and removed in 2015, and Outfall 004 is not needed and was never constructed. Outfall 004 & 005 should be considered for removal from the eDMR process. The following items were noted at the time of the inspection: The Stilling Pond associated with Outfall 001 is no longer needed for hydraulic energy dissipation due to significantly reduced flows associate with removal of the coal boilers, and is promoting algae growth that could impact the discharge. Modification of this structure to reduce retention time is being considered. Decommissioning and removal of Coal Boiler Units 1 and 2 is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022. Work in the '64 Ash Basin continues to progress and is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2022.
