DE 511-MM December 1, 2006 Washington Regional Office Department of Environment and Natural Resources Attn: Scott Vinson 943 Washington Square Mall Washington, NC 27889 BARTLETT ENGINEERING & SURVEYING, PG 1906 Nash Street North Wilson, NC 27893-1726 Phone: (252) 399-0704 Fax: (252) 399-0804 jon@bartletteng.com REFERENCE: STORNRVATER NARRATIVE-COI..UMBIA FIS/MS GYMNASIUM ADDITION Dear Mr. Vinson: The 16.19 acre school site consists of an unknown amount of existing impervious area. The existing 17,197 SF gymnasium will be demolished and replaced with a new gymnasium and sidewalks consisting of 30,772 SF for a net proposed impervious area of 13,575 SF or a 1.92% increase of built upon area. A proposed bioretention area designed in accordance with the NC BMP manual will treat runoff collected from roof drains and transported to the bio-retention area by two 12"pvc pipes from each side of the building. The existing ground level of 2.Oft will be built up to a finished floor elevation of 5.2ft. The temporary pool elevation will be at 3.75ft with a planting elevation of 3.0ft (9" of storage) and a bottom elevation of 1-Oft with under drains. Fill material used in the construction of the bio-retention area will consist of loamy sand with an infiltration rate of at least 1"/hr. The soil type/infiltration rate of the In -Situ soil was not investigated since under -drains would be used to discharge treated stormwater from the bio-retention area to a storm drainage system. Sheet flow and a grassed buffer strip were not utilized at the inlet to the bio-retention facility since roof downspouts will be piped to the area and due to the accessibility of the proposed gymnasium and adjacent structures. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact our office. Thank you. Sincerely, i Environmental Specialist Enclosure
