Dear Division of Environmental Quality
I am unable to attend tonight's hearing on proposed regulations concerning Duke Energy's
Roxboro Plant. As someone who has chosen to move from southern Indiana to Person County,
NC, with my husband later this month, I am VERY concerned about allowing Duke Energy to
continue to leak contaminated wastewater from Duke Energy's coal ash ponds at the Roxboro
Plant and to discharge polluted coal ash transport water from the Roxboro plant into Hyco Lake.
Duke Energy is one of the power companies where I currently live and I am familiar with their
ability to pay for remediation while using tactics to avoid responsibility. As a couple who are
making the choice to live in the beauty of Person County, my husband and I urge you to require
an immediate end to Duke Energy's discharge of contaminated coal ash waste into North
Carolina's water and ground.
