The modification is to increase the mine depth to 30 feet below the surrounding ground surface and to allow mine dewatering activities at the site to said depth as indicated on the Mine Map dated September 16, 2002 and the Pump Operation and Monitoring Plan dated September 20, 2002. This approval is contingent upon your company: a) obtaining and complying with both the required Central Coastal Plain Capacity Use Area Permit issued and enforced by the Division of Water Resources and the NPDESIPump Operation and Monitoring Plan approval issued and enforced by the Division of Water. The intent of this plan is to monitor and maintain the hydrology in wetlands downslope from the W.O. White, LLC mine in Craven County at the John Hardee property near SE 1111 and SR 1116. This plan is hereby approved as being compliant with DWQ's Wetland Standards (15A NCAC 2B ..0231) with the following additions. 1. An as-built/as-installed plan must be submitted to DWQ within 30 days of completion of the monitoring wells and the perimeter ditch. One copy must be sent to Robert Tankard in the Washington Regional Office and one copy sent to the Central Office (c/o Mr. Mike Horan). Per your instructions during our September 12, 2002 telephone conversation, we submit the enclosed mine permit copy and drawing. For future reference, please note that the mine site landowner, Mr. John Hardee, is now deceased. His son (and heir) is also named John Hardee. Mr. Hardee is operating a "mine office" in a trailer located near the mine. The Hardee property surrounds the mine site, and although his "office" is situated along the entrance road to the mine, neither Mr. Hardee nor his office have any affiliation with or control over the permitted W.O. White Mine operations. White, LLC employees directly. W.O. White, LLC, the actual mine operator, has its office located on Neuse Road in Pamlico County, approximately 25 miles away. Visiting DENR personnel have mistakenly been presenting information intended for W.O. White, LLC to Mr. Hardee. This was discovered during a recent discussion between Mr. White and DENR when a site visit that Mr. White had no knowledge of was referenced during the conversation. Apparently, information left with Mr. Hardee is not forwarded to W.O. White, LLC. A possible source for the confusion is that one employee of W.O.
