RE: [External] Pinkerton Sank Stabilization: 3 Forrest Lane, Candler
From: Price, Zan (George) (Zari.Price@ncdenr.gov)

Date: Monday, August 26, 2019, 01:53 PM EDT
Mr. Pinkerton,
A project requesting 390 feet of bank stabilization using non -natural armoring techniques will require a
permit application to our Division. The cost of this permit would be $570.
However, if you chose to do a natural channel design approach (e.g. sloping and native vegetation), you
would be below our permitting threshold and would not have to apply for the permit as long as you could
meet all the conditions of the attached GC 4134.
See link below for a guidance document on how to stabilize your stream banks using a natural approach:
https:l!forsyth.ces.ncsu.edu/wp-content/upioads/2015/10/online-BYSRGuide2015.pdf?fwd=no
If you decide to stick with the armoring approach, please send our Division one copy of the complete
application and appropriate fee to the address listed in the help document (see link below)

Andreal2an,
Attached is an application we have received from Mr. Pinkerton proposing 390 linear feet of bank stabilization using
rock on Herren Cove Creek at 3 Forrest Lane in Candler. Coordinates are 35.578521 -82.709468.1 am forwarding his
application at his request Please contact him directly if you need additional information to complete the application
per your respective agencies' review.
Mr. Pinkerton, as i mentioned on the phone you will need to include a sketch of your proposed work to complete the
application with our office (and likely the other agencies that will be reviewing). This sketch needs to include plans for
work in the creek and on the bank to include what size of material you are proposing to use, proposed slopes on the
bank and what type of vegetation if any you will be planting. As t also mentioned, please address why you don't
believe sloping and planting the bank with some sort of netted vegetation would not be adequate to address the
erosion as that is typically the preferred method of bank stabilization for a stream of this size.
