Restore approximately 2 miles of roadway on the North end of Ocracoke Island -as depicted in the maps
Condition #21:
This permit is valid from 12:01 am on September 26, 2019 through 11 :59 pm January 31, 2020.
SUMMARY OF PERMITTED ACTIVITY: (see attached sheets for additional information and conditions)
NCDOT is permitted to restore / repair approximately a 2-mile section of roadway on Ocracoke Island that was
severely eroded by Hurricane Dorian to include:
•The installation of approximately ,1000 linear feet of sandbags in two eroded areas. Roadway shoulders
would be restored within NCDOT Right-of Way. The sandbags will be hydraulically filled from the swash
zone of the adjacent beach.
•The sandbags (2'x5'x15') will be installed in three layers. See attached drawings Condition #21.
•Create a 10 foot dune (in line with existing dune system) that would withstand normal high tide
conditions and allow the road to be reopened. See attached drawings Condition #21.
•All work will be conducted during daylight hours.
