Describe the existing conditions on the site and the general land use in the vicinity of the project at the time of this application:* This portion of the old NC Ferry Division channel was previously maintained and used for the transfer of automobiles and passengers from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. This route was also used by public and private fishing vessels as their access point through Hatteras Inlet. 4b. Explain the purpose of the proposed project:* The purpose of this project is to dredge a portion of the old NC Ferry Division channel in order to obtain material for dune and road bed restoration along highway 12 on Ocracoke Island. All spoil will be utilized for this purpose. 41. Describe the overall project in detail, including indirect impacts and the type of equipment to be used:* The NC Ferry Division Dredge Manteo will perform maintenance dredging in order to restore the impacted sections of dune line and road bed along NC 12 on Ocracoke Island. This is necessary to restore vehicle transportation abilities on the island for residents, visitors and commercial vendors. It will also improve the safe passage of public and private fishing vessels through the Hatteras Inlet. ApproAmately 100,000 cubic yards of material will be removed in order to adequately address the damage created by Hurricane Dorian. A dredge, excavator, bulldozer and pipeline will be used for site preparation and to deliver the material to the appropriate locations. 4j. Please upload project drawings for the proposed project.
