Jones Street Raleigh, NC 27603 3195 Pine Hall Road Belews Creek, NC 27009 Subject: Clarification for the Confirmation of Excavation Requirements Dan River Ash Basins Dear Mr. Mussler: On September 11, 2019, Duke Energy received Confirmation of Excavation Requirements for the Dan River Combined Cycle Station Ash Basins from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). DEQ concurred that the visual confirmation data provided met the overall objectives of sample collection and analysis but it requested additional information concerning grid locations at which samples were not collected. The locations in question were not sampled because the nodes fell either on top of the dam or on the exterior face of the dam. Since these areas were not in contact with ash, they were not sampled. The attached table contains the rationale for each of the grid locations in question. If there are any questions or need any clarification regarding the information provided, please contact me at melonie.martin@duke-energV.com or (336) 445-0610.
