Mack Wiggins of the North Carolina Division of Water Quality, Surface Water Protection Section,
Raleigh Regional Office, conducted a stormwater compliance evaluation inspection of Republic
Services, on June 24, 2011, at 5111 Chin Page Road in Durham. Your assistance and the assistance of
Mr. Allen Bennett and Mr. Ed Holmes was very helpful and appreciated during the inspection process.
The following observations were made during the stormwater inspection:
Republic Services location primarily engages in dispatching, fueling and a repair station. The
site includes an office building, maintenance facility, covered vehicle wash area, fueling
station and product storage area.
2. The facility site has one outfall with stormwater retention Pond BMP in place. The BMP
was assessable, well managed and stormwater in the BMP was clear and free of debris at the
time of the inspection.
3. Qualitative and Analytical monitoring was performed at the stormwater outfalls as required
by NCG080000. Republic Services conducts the stormwater sampling and ENCO performs
the analyticals.
4. The vehicle maintenance area appeared to be well maintained. All oils and liquids were
secondary contained. Shop drains arc connected to oil/water separators. The discharge from
oil/water separators flows to sanitary sewer.
5. The Stormwatcr Pollution Prevention Plan contained all items as required by General Permit
NCGO80000 with the exception of the spill history documentation, The plan has been
implemented and is updated once a year.
