On May 30, 2001, staff from the Fayetteville Regional Office of the Division of Soil and
Water performed an annual review of the J & W Swine Farm, in Sampson County. The review
revealed that there was over application of nitrogen on the small grain crop on field 9 11R by
thirty-three (33) pounds. As your response indicated that you used the thirty day pre -plant
window to credit the application to the millet crop thus reducing the overapplication to eleven
(1 l) pounds on the rye crop. This deficiency was referred to the Division of Water (duality, as
required, by The Division of Soil and Water.
In regard to the deficiencies noted during the inspection, the following actions are requested-.
1. Avoid over application of nitrogen in the future.
2. The General Permit requires you to report over application to the Fayetteville Regional
Office.
There is no response to this notice necessary as a response has already been received by this
office. Nothing in this letter should be taken as absolving this facility of the responsibility and
liability of any violations that have resulted or may result from these deficiencies.
