There were concerns with typical end bend construction/maintenance/stability of a proposed replacement bridge structure with the frequency of pressure flows and velocities. -Discussion with the geotechnical unit indicated that a bridge abutment would have to be a massive vertical concrete abutment due to the pressure flows and velocities. The incised drainage in this valley would put significant pressure on the abutment. -Additional discussions with the hydraulic unit indicated concern about lift of a bridge during flooding events. -All the concerns at the site led the Department proposing to use a concrete bottomless arch structure that will be anchored into the bedrock as the replacement structure. The following screen shots depict the proposed structure: 01 .or,sT. -T. a kAC..ILL I:;M::pST (.-;I C;.ST-IN-'LACE HEADWkLL — raE_ a' T em U-ST-EN_PL;.CE WING ITIP.: w AST-Ih-PLACE= FCOTIh`.a ;TYP.i END ELE'dr-tiTI0N ;TrP. This presented a significant hurdle to overcome, involving long discussions and an on site meeting with Gary Jordan and Travis Wilson to present our concerns that a standard bridge replacement structure would not work at the site.
