Project Manager for Forsite Corporation (Dallas, Texas) about his client's preliminary thoughts cOIlcerniIiga peat mine in north.;,.easternNorth Carolina. The two (as of now) possible sites are northwest of Elizabeth City or southwest of Plymouth. According to Mr. Smith, no land has been purchased as of yet. ' We discussed our peat m1.n1.ng regs and gave Mr. Smith copies of various First Colony and White Tail Farms reports. He talked to Kevin Moorehead (Wetland Scientist with Division of. Soil and Water Conservation) about wetland issues~ He also called Jim Mulligan and they are tentatively. planning a meeting in Washirigtonj N.C. for mid~August with regional staff. I would. like to be there as welL when it .issCheduled. I am not sure 'how serious Mr. Smith's client is (especially' after hearing about our regs and the tales of woe for White Tail Farms and First Colony) but I will keep you informed. Please advise me as to who else (if anyone) on the central staff (besides the ccls below) should be kept informed. Rather than hold a meeting with the regional staff of DNRCD as we had discussed, we will probably just make a few phone calls to selected staff personnel at this stage.
