BIO REPORT

SITE DESCRIPTION
.The applicant's property is located at Smalls Acres Subdivision in Pasquotank
County on the Little River and adjoins two existing man made canals. The applicant's
lot is approximately 12 acres, with clay sandy soils. Existing on the property is
a single family residence, a pond and a wooded wetland area.
The applicant proposes to perform maintenance excavation on his eastern most
canal to a depth of 5' NWL, and excavate a high ground boat basin 50 feet by 50
feet by 5 feet deep. The maintenance excavation will result in the removal of
approximately 17500 square feet of debris and silt of canal bottom, with approx-
imately 1296 cubic yards being removed. The boat basin excavation will result in
the removal of 2500 square feet of high ground material, resulting in 462 cubic
yards being removed. A bulkhead is to be placed along the edges of the boat
basin, with a total length of 200 feet. The applicant also proposes to place
a boat shelter 50 feet wide by 20 feet long X 25 feet high over the proposed
boat basin, with the top one.half of the sides of the shelter to be enclosed.
The spoil material from the excavation of the high ground boat basin will be
placed between the proposed boat basin and the.existing house, all of which is
high ground. The spoil material, consisting mainly of tree limbs and debris,
will be placed along a 40' corrider parallel to the canal, which is an existing
old spoil site and high ground, and to the west of this spoil site is a wooded
wetland, as shown in the attached plat. The applicant proposes to place the
debris adjacent to the canal and not adjoin the wooded wetland area.
ANTICIPATED"IMPACTS
The proposed maintenance canal excavation will result in the excavation of
1296 cubic yards of canal bottom. The proposed boat basin will result in the
excavation of 462 cubic yards.of high ground. The spoil material will be placed
on an area, approximately 40' wide and 850' long, with a 100' break in this where
a low area is found. The proposed project will result in increased levels of
turbidity, however, these effects should be short-termed and localized, with the
placement of a silt screen at the mouth of the canal:
