RE: Refinement of CAMA Major Development Permit No. 95-14 (TIP No. B-4722B),
Bridge No. 33 over the North River, Carteret County.
Dear Mr. Johnson:
This letter is in response to the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) request dated July
30, 2019 including a cover letter and nine (9) drawings dated as received on July 31, 2019. The
request is for approval to relocate an existing fiber optic utility line owned by Conterra, which
currently hangs on the existing bridge that is to be demolished within the next couple of months.
The utility line would be constructed parallel to the south side of the new bridge for
approximately 2,150 feet. The line would be bored under the North River via directional bore
from high ground to high ground and would be located approximately 30 feet below the mudline
of the river. The proposed work would not result in any additional new impacts to any wetlands
or open waters.
Please be advised that through this Letter of Refinement, the Division of Coastal Management
(DCM) conveys its determination that the revision as described in your request dated July 30,
2019 is consistent with existing State rules and regulations and is in keeping with the original
purpose and intent of CAMA Permit No. 95-14.
This letter shall be attached to the original of CAMA Permit. No. 95-14, which was issued on
October 30, 2014, as well as all subsequent modifications and refinements, and copies of all of
documents shall be readily available on -site when a DCM representative inspects the project for
compliance. All conditions and stipulations of the active permit shall remain in force unless
altered herein. This approval does not eliminate the need to obtain any additional permits,
approvals or authorizations that may be required.
