The current proposed crossing location is where there is already a farm crossing occurring in the channel. We looked at running the road around the area to the west at the headwaters of the channel however there is a 50' setback from the parcel line and the topography is really steep in there. The drainage area to the current culvert location is approx. 25.5 acres and we are proposing a 36" diameter RCP that we would set below the invert of the channel. The fill footprint on the channel is 51' and we could eliminate the upstream riprap and use existing bed material. We have around 16' of riprap on the downstream end of the culvert and we could look at the bed material to see if it is rocky to eliminate using the riprap there. I have attached a plan that shows the aerial photo behind it for refence where the existing crossing is occurring at now by the landowner. It appears based on the design below that impacts to streams and wetland CAN be avoided as shown below (the red line). A wide potential access area and then the access road adjacent to the property boundary. The map indicates a "bridge", the application states 40ft of excavation and 82 ft for a culvert. Not sure what the 40 ft refers to and the purpose. And it appears there is an excessive amount of riprap proposed at the outfall. Maybe a 48 inch pipe (if that is proposed) and no riprap, would work. The proposed pipe size indicates that the drainage area is relatively small and need for a velocity dissipator may not really be required.
