The final pipe material and diameter must be clearly identified both on the plans and on the engineer's
certification page, and must be submitted to the Division prior to operation [ 15A NCAC 02T.0116].

FYI, see email below regarding alternate pipe sizes, for your discussion with Debra.
From what I can tell, based on the below email and the draft application he provided (attached), the majority of
the length of this project will be a directional bore, where they'll either use 24" HDPE or 20" Fusible PVC,
which have a similar ID (18.37" vs. 19.06").
But they are also considering using 20" or 16" Fusible PVC for other portions of the project, which (of course)
don't have similar IDs, but the engineer is saying it won't have much of an effect on the entire line because that
301 feet is just a fraction of the entire project length.
(Actually, it's a bit confusing as to what they're exactly proposing, but once I get an idea of how we would
write a permit for such a situation, I can better nail down what it is they're proposing).

I didn't realize the check is more than 60 days old and expired a couple of days ago. I requested Johnston
County for a replacement. Will ship out as soon as I receive it.
Also, one Iast question, under General Requirements (VI) point number 8 asks about the wastewater
generated with the project. For this project, the additional flow is 0. Do I need to put receiving downstream
permit number or the system -wide collection permit number?. I am using downstream permit number in the

The owner used the older version of FLow Tracking Application (FTSE 04-16) instead of the newer version
(FTSE 10-18) for the HWY 70 project. As you are aware the only difference is the added new column "Pump
Station Permit No", for the HWY 70 project there are no pump stations involved with the project.

It typically takes us between 6-8 weeks to review and issue fast -track applications/permits.
However, we realize that you submitted the variance back in March, so we will take that into consideration and will
hopefully be able to issue the permit in the next 2/3 weeks.
I will talk with our permit coordinator in our Central Office who approves variances and see where she's at with that. It's
my understanding she started looking at it, but has not completed it yet.

Morning, Jason,
Hydraulic modeling, analysis, and design were done for a 20" pipe size. A 24" HDPE (DR9, 18.374") and a 20" Fusible PVC
(DR18, 19.06) almost have a similar internal diameter. HDPE and Fusible PVC are chosen as alternatives for the same
reason whereas Johnston County wants to compare the cost difference between a 20" and 16" alternatives.
The proposed project is to replace an existing 12" pipe with a 20" or a 16". My Project Engineer thinks changing the pipe
size to 16" in the hydraulic model'w'll�ny1.alte"he-pre5MTEZTVetadtrETin the pipe drastically as the added pipe length
is small compared to the existing system.

Just an FYI... design of the system should be done before an application is submitted. Will the calculations and designs
be done for all alternatives?
Also, I know in some cases that pipes of different material and outer diameter sometimes have a very similar inside
diameter, and therefore the calculations are very similar. Is this the case in any of these situations?
I'm still waiting to hear a definitive answer on how to proceed with this. I'm being told it won't be until at least
Wednesday (permit coordinator wants to run it by her supervisor),

Morning, Jason,
Hydraulic modeling, analysis, and design were done for a 20" pipe size. A 24" HDPE (DR9, 18.374") and a 20"
Fusible PVC (DR 18, 19.06) almost have a similar internal diameter. HDPE and Fusible PVC are chosen as
alternatives for the same reason whereas Johnston County wants to compare the cost difference between a 20"
and 16" alternatives.
The proposed project is to replace an existing 12" pipe with a 20" or a 16". My Project Engineer thinks
changing the pipe size to 16" in the hydraulic model will not alter the pressure or velocities in the pipe
drastically as the added pipe length is small compared to the existing system.

Hi Madhu,
Just an FYI... design of the system should be done before an application is submitted. Will the calculations and designs
be done for all alternatives?

Also, i know in some cases that pipes of different material and outer diameter sometimes have a verysimilar inside
diameter, and therefore the calculations are very similar. Is this the case in any of these situations?
I'm still waiting to hear a definitive answer on how to proceed with this. I'm being told it won't be until at least
Wednesday (permit coordinator wants to run it by her supervisor).

As we spoke on the phone. Johnston County wants to finalize the Force Main pipe size as well as the material
for the directional bores under US-70 HWY during the bidding process. Please let me know the requirements
for the approval.
