Dear Landon,
This letter is written on behalf of the Buncombe County Schools to provide information
as to remedial action taken to the above referenced facility. RPB Systems, Inc. is the
contract operations firm, which operates this facility.
We collected a 70.8 mg/L BOD on 4-9-19, 59.4 mg/L on 4-16-19, beyond the daily
maximum allowed of 45 mg/L. Our average for April was 36.11 mg/L BOD beyond the
30 mg/L BOD limit. We constantly adjust aeration run times and waste sludge based on
sample results and visual observations. The BOD spike of 70.8 mg/L coincided with a
spike in pH from 6.5 week of 4/1/19 to 7.6 on the day sampled indicating a toxic
influence to the WWTP. We also had heavy rains in April that nearly covered the plant
on 4-19-19. The flooding resulted in having to pump out muddy water and reseed the
plant.
