Provide a detailed site plan showing property boundaries and proposed locations of vegetation clearing, buildings, retaining walls, docks, impervious surfaces, rip rap, excavation or dredging below Full Pond/ Normal Water Level elevations, and construction access corridors. (Include a scale of some sort- a yard stick, shovel handle, etc.) 4. Location of the property (where work is to be conducted) County: Mecklenburg Nearest Town: Cornelius Lake/ river/ ocean adjacent to property: Lake Norman Property size (acres): 2.88 acres Subdivision name or site address (include phase/lot number): The subject property is an island located within the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) proiect boundary for Lake Norman. The island is referred to as Heron Island (N-18), and is located approximateiv 1,500 feet west of 20433 Staghorn Court in Cornelius (see Attachment 1-b). Island N-18 is owned by Duke Energy. Directions to site - please include road names and numbers, landmarks, etc.: The Heron Island (N-18) proiect site is only accessible via boat. Describe the existing land use or condition of the site at the time of this application (residential, undeveloped, etc.): The island is undeveloped and densely wooded. 6. Describe proposed work (include discussion as to how hardening of shoreline has been avoided, or why it is necessary): The purpose of shoreline stabilization is for preservation of the island, which is an active heron rookery (i.e., approximately 40 nests in 2018). The stabilization will protect this important natural resource site from further degradation of the shoreline and loss of the island. The proposed work will stabilize three sections of the main channel -facing shoreline (western shoreline) with current eroded bank heights of 2 feet to 5 feet. Stabilization will be completed with matting and riprap. The three sections proposed for stabilization total 310 linear feet of shoreline. Any down/damaged trees currently located at the shoreline will be placed on or adiacent to the stabilized shoreline after work is completed. 7. Will work be conducted from land? ❑ From water? 8. Any vegetation required to be removed will be placed on/around the stabilized shoreline at the completion of the project. 11.
