Hello, Kelli,
I’ve now contacted the construction contractor for the portion of US 221 North adjacent to the home at 878. He will
contact the appropriate NCDOT person to discuss the “daylighting” of the stream we discussed when we met on July
8. I’m trying to set up a meeting at the site for Monday, August 11. Mr. Vannoy says he can be there, and will try to
arrange to have the representative of NCDOT there as well. He’ll advise me as soon as he has made the
arrangements. I’m emailing Amanda Fuemmeler of the USACOE this evening to request Corps participation. Since the
construction of 221, and environmental concerns are involved, it is probably most efficient if all parties are there
together so that any conflicting issues can be resolved expeditiously. I’ll also be contacting the environmental
companies that were recommended to try to arrange to choose one of them and send them my sketches, and ask them
if they can have a representative present as well.
I plan to bring a level with me so that I can shoot the elevations at the entry of the stream into the culvert and its
elevation as it flows below the drain that was constructed at the new highway construction for establishing the new
stream bed’s slope. I’ve estimated a fall of six feet for purposes of producing a rough sketch.
Let me know if July 11 works for you, and, if so, whether there are any times that day that are less convenient for
you. I’ll coordinate scheduling with the other parties, unless, as was the case on July 8, you and Amanda will be traveling
together.
If we can agree on the design of the project and get the permitting accomplished, Vannoy has equipment there that
could make short work of constructing the new stream bed and banks, and prepare for the final connections.
Appreciatively,
Dale Moretz
