Subject: Application for Dredging of Unauthorized Fill and Shoreline Stabilization
Dear Ms. Higgins:
Please find attached a $240.00 application fee and three copies of an application for a proposed
dredging and shoreline stabilization project at 4603 Kiser Island Road, located on Lake Norman
in Catawba County.
The subject work is being conducted to remove unauthorized fill that was placed within the
boundary of Lake Norman by the owner of 4603 Kiser Island Road. The project will impact
approximately 155 linear feet of shoreline and is expected to result in the removal of 444.44
cubic yards of fill material. The shoreline will be stabilized with riprap upon completion of the
dredging activities.

5. Describe the existing land use or condition of the site at the time of this application
(residential, undeveloped, etc.): Single-family residential property
6. Describe proposed work (include discussion as to how hardening of shoreline has been
avoided, or why it is necessary): The proposed work includes removal of an unauthorized
seawall and dredging of unauthorized fill placed in the lake by the homeowner. The surface
area of unauthorized fill is 2,013 square feet, with an average depth of 4.9 feet and estimated
volume of 444.4 cubic yards. After completion of dredging activities the bank will be stabilized
with matting and rip rap. Shoreline stabilization will be limited to 6 feet below the full pond
elevation and 1 foot above full pond All work will be completed by barge• spoil materials will
be taken via barge to a staging area and removed from the lake. No vegetation removal or
other buffer impacts are proposed.

10. Please describe the vegetation above the normal pool lake level/ Normal Water Level and 50
feet landward to be impacted (number of trees, for instance): The majority of the 50 -
foot buffer on this property is grass with no trees. Several small -caliper trees and brush are
located on the western 20 feet of shoreline. There are no anticipated impacts to woody
vegetation while conducting the proposed work.
