All,
Asheville Regional Office Water Quality staff alerted ARO Public Water Supply Section at approximately
11:45 p.m. to report that the American Zinc Recycling facility was on fire. The address for this site is 48 Hicks
Grove Rd., Mooresboro, NC. There is a 1,000,000 gallon tank that stores sulfuric acid in the facility and waste
product storage lagoons adjacent to the facility. The site sits above the Broad River and there is the potential
for runoff from this facility to reach the river. No North Carolina Public Water Supply surface water intakes are
located downstream of this facility. South Carolina Emergency Operations has been notified of the event. A

Rutherford County dispatch has confirmed a fire at a zinc
factory. Viewers also told WYFF News 4 that the American Zinc
Product Plant in Mooresboro was burning.
