David,
I will not be attending these field meetings, but I have a few comments.
1) Suitable habitat for the federally endangered rough -leaved loosestrife (Lysimachia asperulaefolia) is likely
present at some or all of the bridge sites. There are several known occurrences in the vicinity of the B-5624
site. Surveys for the species should be conducted during the appropriate survey window (mid -May through
September).
2) Suitable habitat for other federally listed plants may be present.
3) For B-5627, minimize impacts to the Orton Creek Preserve owned by The Nature Conservancy. There are
known occurrences of the federally endangered red -cockaded woodpecker (Picoides borealis) in the vicinity of
this site. If pine trees >8" dbh are to be removed, surveys within 0.5 mile of the site may be needed to
determine if active cavity trees are present.
4) For the B-5624 site, minimize impacts to the Green Swamp Preserve.

We would like to schedule the Field Scoping Meetings for the subject projects and you or your representatives have
been identified for attendance at the FSM. This email will be followed by another invitation for the remaining 2 bridges
B-5644 and B-5653 on the next day.
These are regional tier bridges in Division 3 and our initial task order is to complete the FSM, functional plans, and
MCDC. The schedules for lettings on these bridges is attached, so we would like to hold the FSM in August and start
final design in Fall, 2018. In the development of the functional plans, we received input from Al Edgerton, Monica
DuVal, and Mason Herndon regarding on -site vs. off -site detours and which side for detours (left/right) to minimize
impacts to wetlands, utilities, etc. Major considerations in the selection of on -site detours included high traffic
volumes, length of detour required, no suitable detour routes without pavement/shoulder improvements, and use as a
hurricane evacuation route or school bus routes.
