PROJECT SUMMARY: The Town of Beaufort proposes to construct a floating dock with 12 slips on Taylor Creek east of the end of Turner Street. FIELD INVESTIGATION REPORT: TOWN OF BEAUFORT PAGE #2 9. NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION: The Town of Beaufort operates the " Beaufort Docks" located along Front St. on Taylor Creek in Beaufort, Carteret County. The town is proposing to construct a floating dock on Taylor Creek immediately east of the end of Turner Street. Currently there is a small fixed dock with three slips in the location of the proposed floating dock. The town proposes to remove the fixed dock and construct an 84' long by 6' wide floating dock, with four 30' by 4' finger piers and a 80' x 6' "T" head at the waterward end. The new floating dock will accomodate 12 boats and thus there will be a net increase of nine slips since there were three original slips. This will bring the total number of slip for the Beaufort Town Docks to 67. The proposed slips are designed to accomodate 21'-28' boats. 10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS: The proposed docks will occupy approximately 6,720 sq. ft. of public trust waters. The waters of Taylor Creek are classified as SC by DEM and are closed to shellfishing by DEH and DMF. The project is located within the Beaufort Historic District. PREPARED BY: W.
