Allen Stearn Station

In accordance with the requirements of the Industrial Stormwater Permit NCS000546, please
accept this letter as written notification that Allen Steam Station is on Tier 3 status at outfalls
SW009 for Zinc and SW020 for Total Suspended Solids.
Storm water samples for SW009 that exceed Zn benchmarks were collected on 10/27/2015,
1/21/2017,12/20/2017, and 3/6/2018. The latest Stormwater analytical results were received
3/6/18. Stormwater samples for SW020 that exceed TSS benchmarks were collected on
10/27/15, 1/15/2016, 5/7/2016, 9/1/2016 and 3/6/2018. The latest Stormwater analytical results
were received 3/19/2018.
Several initiatives have been completed or are currently in -progress to address tier status
changes and mitigate contributing factors to benchmark exceedances:
• Repairing road shoulder rutting from truck traffic
• Installing rock checks dams
• Enhancing unpaved roads with stone entrances and mud mats
• Cleaning and bolstering storm drains
• Employing more self-contained road sweeping equipment
