SUBJECT: Response to Notice of Violation (NOV-2019-DV-0261)
Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) Incident 201900981
Mark Brantley:
1. This memo is to provide response to the SSO reported 5/30/19 at Warrior Woods lift station force
main. The SSO was caused by a material failure at a joint due to improper installation creating pipe
deflection. It was not due to unsatisfactory operation and maintenance procedures. This lift station is
checked three times each week for general condition, pump run time, grounds maintenance, and
overall performance, surpassing minimum requirements.
2. Remedial/mitigating actions consisted of 1) utilizing contracted and Town -owned vehicles to bypass
this lift station, 2) removing the damaged piping, 3) replacing with pressure piping and repair clamps,
4) appropriate cleanup and sanitation, and 5) required notice and reporting protocol.
3. Additionally, a capital project for replacement of this force main is underway. The study and design
phases have been completed, with competitive bidding and construction remaining. We anticipate
project completion by end of year 2019. This exhibits forward thinking and a proactive attitude,
documented in our overall capital improvement plan.
