Previously, she was a PhD student at East Carolina University in the Coastal Resources Management program. After obtaining her PhD in 2014, Dr. Eulie was hired as an Assistant Professor at UNCW. She teaches introductory courses such as Global Environmental Issues, as well as undergraduate and graduate classes in field methods, GIS, coastal environments, and coastal management. She is alumni of the EVS Department (2005) and the Department of Earth & Ocean Science (2008) at UNCW. Dr. Eulie's research is focused on a variety of coastal and environmental issues such as investigating sediment accumulation in local wetlands and estuaries, estuarine shoreline erosion, the impacts of storms on coastal environments, sea -level rise impacts in the coastal zone, "living shorelines," as well as NC coastal policies. 6/19/2019 CES Lab -- CE Lab Home Te 1 c rt ',,lien'.' Al out .k I -A. )e _oasfal and stuarine Studies Welcome to UNCW CES Lab The University of North Carolina Wilmington CES Lab is an interdisciplinary research lab led by Dr. Devon Eulie. We are housed within the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Center for Marine Science. Our research spans a wide range of coastal environments and issues. We approach the study of these issues using innovative field and remote sensing techniques, and modeling from a cross-section of disciplines (ecology, geology, GIS, and public policy). Our goal is to assess change in coastal environments over multiple spatial and temporal scales and then work directly with a range of stakeholders to develop targeted management strategies. If you are a student interested in conducting research with our lab, please explore our project pages and see what our current students are working on. We currently have students conducting one -semester DIS projects to Masters students working on a capstone or thesis project. If you are an interested potential collaborator or coastal stakeholder, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to speak with you regarding on-going projects or about the potential for a new project. Today we are spotlighting our local host for this fall's meeting in Wilmington, NC Dr, Devon Euliel She received her Ph.D. in Coastal Resources Management from East Carolina University and is an alumna of UNCW. where she received both her Bachelors in Environmental Studies and Masters in Geology. She has been working as an Assistant Professor at UNCW since 2012 and recently started as the Graduate Program Coordinator for the EVS Department. Her research focuses on assessing change in coastal environments using cross- disciplinary ross-disci,linary approaches, innovative technologies, and remote sensing. In her free time, she spends time with her family enjoying the environment around Wilmington, disc golfing, and kayaking. Fun Fact: One of her first research conferences was actually CERF (when it was ERF!) in Norfolk, VA, in 2005 followed by SEERS at Pine Knoll Shores in 2007. Her dream yeas to return to UNCW one day as a member of the faculty to teach and mentor students in research. Do you have any advice for new SEERSians? "Talk to everyone! Get to know your colleagues/other students and what they are working on. This is how new research collaborations get started and you never know what you might learn or the new friends you might make!'
