Subject: RE: [External] C203844 Silt loss Site 13 and 14
Good morning again —
The sediment needs to be retrieved and relocated to an upland area where it will be contained. I recommend using hay
bales in the channel (approximately every 20-25 feet) to give the contractor defined work areas which will also help trap
any sediment that gets stirred up during the retrieval process. Using flat shovels and rakes, the silt must be cleaned up
with care being taken to not over -excavate the channel (i.e. you will see a difference between stream bed material and
silt). This should all be done by hand (i.e. hand tools, buckets, etc) with no mechanized equipment entering the riparian
area or the stream. Also, any fouled materials (i.e. rip rap at the pipe outlet, coir fiber matting at the inlet of the pipe(s))
needs to be replaced with clean material. Also please insure that all EC devices in these areas are reset and repaired as
appropriate. Any bank areas that get destabilized due to the clean up process, please seed and mat with riparian seed
and coir fiber matting.
I'll need follow up pictures to send to Dave (USACE) and April (DWR), both of whom are also on this email.
I'll plan to come out later this week to see how much progress Thalle has made. The clean up efforts noted here need to
also be in conjunction with the ones we noted last week.
Thank you for your diligence in finding and reporting these areas. It is appreciated!
Nikki

Nikki,
See the attached pictures of sites 13 and 14.
It appears that all the silt that entered the JS area came from the inlet of site 14 and then washed down to the inlet of
13. There is silt that runs the whole length of the creek between the two sites.
Please advise on how clean up efforts should be made.
Thanks,
Wright Archer
