The NCDOT Ferry Division is in the process of addressing damage experienced from Hurricane Florence. In 2005, this
office authorized rip rap protection for approximately 440' along the perimeter of the existing spoil disposal area that is
bordered by the Cape Fear River and Price's Creek in Southport. Post Florence the Ferry Division needs to add an
additional 78 feet of rip rap to the shoreline that experienced damage during Florence.
The Ferry Division has applied for Nationwide 13, bank stabilization, but since the total rip rap distance now exceeds
500 feet a waiver from general conditions is required. Part of this waiver is to coordinate with appropriate State and
Federal agencies seeking input as to whether this additional amount of rock will result in more than minimal impact.
According to nationwide procedures, the Corps is seeking your input within 10 calendar days. Attached you will find
the Pre Construction Notification Form and plans of record.
Please indicate whether you think the proposal would be greater than minimal impact and if your agency could support
a waiver of the 500' limit currently written in General Conditions.
