NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTE
This advertisement and a news release have been issued in compliance with North
Carolina General Statute 143-215.1 C (a portion of the Clean Water Act of 1999). The
below information was sent to news reporters on June 10, 2019. Charlotte Water crews
responded to a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) found on June 09, 2019 at the McGuire
Lift Station at 6003 Stephens Road. An estimated 103,702 gallons reached a tributary of
the Catawba River. The overflow was caused by the lift station flooding (damaged
equipment). Charlotte Water crews maintain more than 4,330 miles of wastewater pipe.
Charges from monthly water bills fund preventative maintenance, emergency response,
and the safe daily delivery of more than 78 million gallons of wastewater to treatment
plants, where wastewater is treated to high water quality standards and released back
