Restoration was required to remedy the unauthorized installation of bulkhead wing walls and associated backfill and grading that occurred within delineated wetlands and DWR Nutrient Sensitive Buffers. On May 24, 2018, environmental scientists from Quible & Associates, P.C. visited the Site and inspected the restored areas. The attached Documentation includes photographs of the review area. Based on the observations made on May 24, 2018, stable natural ground cover is established in Zone 1 along with four native woody species (native woody vegetation at a rate of 260 trees per acre -surviving) two each of Southern Wax Myrtle and Sweet Bay. In addition, the 211 plugs of S. cynosuroides have rooted, are green, and appear to be growing. There was no mortality observed in any of the live plants and trees installed. Groundcover has been established with a blend of native riparian grasses, herbs, and flowers. The expected density of emergent wetlands plants has increased. Once natural shoreline grade was re-established many of the adjacent emergent wetlands species (Schoenoplectus robusfus) sprouted (through roots and rhizomes) as shown in the attached photographs. Native ground cover and woody tree species have all survived the initial planting. There were no invasive species noticed within the restored area or immediately adjacent. Quible did speak with staff at Arlington Place/Mill Creek about maintenance and allowing the grasses, herbs and flowers to remain undisturbed in Zone 1. A follow up visit will be made in May of next year. There are no recommendations for additional planting of any woody tree species or ground cover for year one. The following pictures and observations are noted. 1. Native Schoeneplectus robustus emerging in area where bulkhead was removed and re -graded adjacent to "L" Dock. Planted Spartina cynosuroides healthy (foreground) and establishing. 211 plugs of S. cynosuroides were planted along the shoreline. There was no mortality observed in year one monitoring—all plants have survived, and plant density exceeds expectation with influx of native emergent species. 2. Restored shoreline (west side of ramp). Planted S. cynosuroides surviving with no mortality observed. Some native emergent Schoenoplectus robustus emerging. Riparian buffer mix seeds sprouted and in general cover is adequate. Some ripped up SAV pushed up on the near shore.
