General Project Narrative:
(Description of Minimization of Water
Quality Impacts)
The existing single span 30'-7" bridge over Town Creek on SR 1421 (Bethany Rd) is being replaced with a single span (1 @70') 24" cored slab bridge. The bridge will be normal
crown at 2.0% with 11' travel lanes and 2'-11" shoulders, 27"-10" clear width and 30'-0" OTO width. The existing bridge structure will be removed. Overall drainage patterns will
be maintained. There are roadside ditches that flow towards the bridge on either side of the structure. The proposed design will interfere with three of the existing ditches flow
patterns, and proposed ditches will be used to maintain flow to the bridge, and down the floodbench. On the begin side of the bridge, traffic bearing 2GI drainage inlets were
placed on both sides of the roadway to pick up runoff from the bridge. Class -II rip rap abutment protection on both banks of the stream is also proposed to prevent future erosion
and stream migration. Deck drains were placed on both sides of stream; discharging onto the rip rap abutment. Deck drains are needed to prevent stormwater spread from
entering the roadway. No dissipator pads were used because the Class-ll rip rap will prevent erosion and dissipate flow. Dual proposed water line crossing construction will also
be performed as part of this project which will cross the stream upstream of the proposed bridge. The work area shall be cordoned off with impervious dikes and pump around
operation and the sediment laden water within the work area shall be filtered out using a special stilling basin.
