Subject: FW: WUP Plan Revision
Melissa,
I am currently working with Natale Woolard, Division of Soil and Water to update the WUP plan for Mark Shore. Please
see some of the previous contacts below. I should have the data to Natalie by the end of next week so revisions can
begin. I wanted to review with Mark the rotations, tracts, and field numbers again before proceeding. Working
together, I feel we can get this WUP updated in the very near future. Mark's plan has been out of date for too
long. Thank you for your patience with this matter. I will keep you posted. Please contact me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Tom Smith

To m,
If you could send me the information either electronically or in the mail, I will run it through the software program for
you.
That is the best I can do at this time. We do not have staff that can assist in a timely manner, unless I see if Josh Spencer
with NRCS could possibly help out. However, I am not aware of his schedule.
If you want me to do it, I would need the old plan, recent soil sample results for corresponding fields, maps, acres etc.
for any fields to be added. There may be additional items needed as I get started, but I will let you know.
Hope this helps!
Natalie

Natalie,
I need assistance with the current software with everything needed to develop a new WUP plan. I will have our IT guy
reload because I have no administrative privileges. Mr. Shore's WUP plan was done (0200 days) pre 2005'ish software
days or the current planning software. He has never has any revisions with this current software and I am not familiar
with it.
Yes, I need assistance. Thanks for your help and attention to this request.

Tom,
I can definitely acid your request to our list., but just for clarification I am not sure which new software you are referring
to. We have been working on new Nutrient Management Software but it has not been released. So offices are still
using the old software from 2005'ish timeframe. If you want to attempt to download that software here is the link and
instructions....
http://nutrients.soil.ncsu.edu/software/nmp/
Please let me know if you still need our assistance. If so, I am not sure we can meet your requested date of completion
of 8/1/15. We have several projects under construction at this time and a vacancy in your area. We will do our best.

Natalie,
Please see the request for assistance. Mr. Mark Shore has requested a WUP revision. I am uncomfortable with the new
software that is being used at this time. I can assist with maps and planning and are very willing to learn how to operate
the new software. Mr. Shore has been keeping proper records, but his field rotations are need of revisions to pass
required state inspections. The current plan on file with our District office has been out of date for some time now. Mr.
Shore has been more than patient with our office. Please note I have currently lost the software due to recent
computer issues also. Thanks in advance for you help.
Sincerely,
Tom Smith

SUBJECT: Notice of Deficiency
Compliance Inspection
Shorehill Farm #85-9
Stokes County
Dear Mr. Shore:
On February 27, 2001 Melissa Rosebrock of the Division of Water Quality's Winston-Salem
Regional Office performed a compliance inspection at the Shorehill Farm. While reviewing the farm's
animal waste records and general farming operations, she noted several concerns that warrant your
attention.
Specifically, Ms. Rosebrock noted evidence of severe streambank erosion along an unnamed
tributary (UT) to Voss Creek (Class C) near the heifer lot due to the cattle having unrestrained access to
e the creek. Remnants of wire and fencing observed during the inspection suggest that there had recently
been a buffered area next to the creek. Per discussion with Staff, we understand that the fencing is to be
re -installed within six months and the buffer area re -seeded with grass.
Another area of concern was the breeding heifer lot on Middlebrook Road. On the date of the
inspection, Ms. Rosebrock also noted that there was some erosion of soil and waste occurring from the
breeding heifer lot towards Voss Creek. Your proposed construction of stock trails to/from this lot should
alleviate at least some of the problem. We urge your continued cooperation. with the Stokes County
SWCD/NRCS in implementing the proposed stock trails this year.
The past discharge of "juice" from stockpiled silage into the UT to Voss Creek was also noted
during the inspection. To eliminate the possibility of further silage waste getting into surface waters of
the State, you should land apply the rotted silage -as -soon as possible.
While none of the wastes described above were reaching waters of the State on the date of the
inspection, the potential certainly exists for a discharge to waters in the future, particularly if conditions
deteriorate on any of the above mentioned areas. Again, please contact the Stokes County SWCD/NRCS
for any technical assistance you may need.

A review of the waste application records also revealed some deficiencies that should be
addressed as soon as possible. Specifically, December 2000 applications of waste were outside of
the application window stated in the Certified Animal Waste Management Plan (CAWMP).
In addition, an error in reading the appropriate table in the CAWMP, caused 65 pounds of
Plant Available Nitrogen (PAN) to be overapplied to Tract-2745 Field-5. We recommend that
you not apply any waste to this specific field for at least.12 months from the date of the last
application.
Further, the CAWMP lists "Tobacco" as the crop for Tract-3497 Field-4C. As you stated
during the inspection, the area actually had soybeans in it last year and will be in corn this year.
Please contact your technical specialist to have your CAWMP revised to reflect this cropping
change and for any other assistance you may need regarding the "interpretation" of the CAWMP.
The Winston-Salem Regional Office appreciates your cooperation in these matters. If you
have any questions concerning this Notice, please contact Melissa Rosebrock or me at (336) 771-
4600.
Sincerely
