Thanks for the info. Sam Kiser is a good farmer, Does have a Dead bird composter that we designed.
Has always done a good job with it. However that are smells associated with chicken waste, can make
Landowners unhappy.

Hey All,
I contacted the complainant today (Ms. Williams). I talked with her about the construction of her well
(drilled in 2001 or 2003). She had also spoken with Alamance County Health Dept. and they told her
that the well was relatively new and drilled so that contaminants should not get into her well water.
They (and I) also discussed the poultry composting procedure with her including the use of high
temperatures to kill bacteria if done properly. I provided her with the State Vet's number in Raleigh in

case she had additional questions regarding the composting and permitting process (for poultry
composting facilities) or needed to report inadequately composted birds that might be seen on fields.
I discussed in "general" the permitting and inspection process in NC for swine and cattle and that
poultry litter land application was "legal" in NC.
I ask her if that answered all her questions and she said yes. I ask her if she needed anything else and
she said no. I also gave her my phone number if she thought of any more questions.

Araceli, Who deals with animal remains? I talked to Nancy McKee from
RCRA who told me that this is not RCRA issue. Is there any role that
the water division can play in this???? Serdar
