oxv l;en recorded. from the sites upstream of Mission -Dam I'he dissolved
o_x)l;en concentrations in the Mission Powerhouse _flovv__ (Riyer. 1xltle_ 105,9)
were at or neat, saturation concentrations. Since the t)owerhouse flow is
released from _.mid_tolower depths of ,the.- Mission Reservoir, the D.O.
concentrations ,reflected ..the-_inteurated_biological metabolism at the different
OQAI _ fix, respiration and_photosvmthesis).__ The-_oxygen _ concentrations
exceeded 100 percent saturations _indicat_ing.._.significant_. aquatic plant
photosxnthesis activity in the,tiiwassee IZiver. At higher flows,the biological
metabolism contributed _to_dissolved oxygen, concentration ,changes,.hut was
nut predominant_duc to _.higher _volumes of water .-in.the river. Based upon
dissolved oxygen data collected in_ 2001 and the NC;DENR-DWQ historical
data, _ oxyggi -concentrations , consistently exceeded , the. minimum
concentrations established_bv State water auality standards for the Hiwassee
