Box 300 Edenton, NC 27932 Subject: Variance Request Approval Town of Edenton —WQCS00272 Wastewater Collection System Inflow and Infiltration Abatement (WQ0040562) Chowan County Dear Ms. Knighton: The Division of Water Resources (Division) has reviewed the submitted variance request received on March 29, 2019 for the subject project. The Division will grant the variance request for the installation of gravity sewer below the minimum required slope in accordance with the provisions for alternative design under 15A NCAC 02T.0105(n): 1. Pursuant to the variance request received March 29, 2019 from The Wooten Company on behalf of the Town of Edenton, a variance is granted for the rehabilitation/replacement and operation of approximately 1,823 linear feet of 8-inch gravity sewer between Manholes MH 314 to MH 313, MH 26 to MH 27, MH 32 to MH 31, and between MH 25, MH 31, MH 27, MH 27A, and MH 28, at varying slopes between 0.22%- 0.31%, as well as approximately 232 linear feet of 15-inch gravity sewer between MH 297 to MH 318 at a slope of 0.08%; as indicated on the provided plans, specifications, and supporting documents, and subject to the following requirements: a. The sections of gravity sewer as described above shall be designated as "high- priority sewer" in accordance with 15A NCAC 02T.0402. b. High-priority sewers shall be inspected by the permittee or its representative at least once every six-months in accordance with the permittee's individual system-wide collection system permit (WQCS00272). Regardless of the variance approval, in the event that the wastewater collection facilities fail to perform satisfactorily, including the creation of nuisance conditions, the Permittee shall take immediate corrective action, including those as may be required by this Division, such as the construction of additional or replacement facilities. Approval of the variance request does not constitute approval of the permit.
