R-2577A Merger Team members,
As design has progressed for Section A of R-2577 in Forsyth County, NCDOT has found that the original Preferred
Alternative (termed “Transitional Widening” at prior meetings) has continued to be refined. In keeping with the “best
fit” spirit of previous concurrence points, our designers have continued to review the constraints and try to balance
residential and business relocations with the known historic resources and stream impacts along the A section of the
corridor. Based on current survey data and our known constraints, we have found that the most effective and least
impactful design is primarily a “northern widening” of the existing alignment.
Furthermore, we recently presented our latest design to the Corps and NCDWR on May 2, 2019 along with anticipated
impact numbers (using slope-stakes plus 25 feet as our estimated footprint) using a best-fit widening that falls primarily
to the northern side of the existing alignment, which reduces the overall residential, business, and stream impacts in
Section A (see attached summary table). We are also adhering to our prior commitments with no changes that affect our
prior historic architecture findings.
At the request of the Corps and NCDWR, we are respectfully requesting your review and signature on a revised version
of the Concurrence Points 3 and 4A forms in order to maintain clear and consistent project records. We have updated
each form with revised language and new impact information, where applicable. We certainly feel the current design
meets the spirit of the prior concurrence points, but want to make sure all parties understand the revisions we’ve made.
We will provide an opportunity for a brief discussion at the beginning of the R-2577A 4B Meeting to be held on June 12;
the signature process can come before or after the meeting via DocuSign if that is everyone’s preferred method.
Attached are the original signature forms and the proposed revised forms. A set of roadway plans is located on our XFER
site that references some of the design edits we’ve made to further minimize impacts (see

ing%20Map.pdf).
Please respond with any comments or thoughts about this, and feel free to call Connie or me. We appreciate your
continued assistance on this project!
