Permit: WQ0034468 Owner - Facility: Brunswick County
Inspection Date: 05/23/2019 Inspection Type: Complaint Reason for Visit: Routine
Inspection Summary:
On May 23, 2019 a complaint was received regarding land application of sludge on property located on Maultsby Rd NE,
Town Creek in Brunswick county. A site visit was conducted to observe the residual applications. The farmer was present
at the site and offed assistance to observe the field conditions. Contact was also made over the phone with the ORC from
Bio-Green. Residuals were confirmed to have come from Brunswick County (distribution of residual solids permit
WQ0034668). One field had residuals applied to that day. The spreader was on site at a loading area. A small amount
was reported to have been spilled during loading activities (approximately 40 gallons) which have been cleaned up/covered
with dirt and was to be applied to the field once loading activities had completed. No run off from this loading area was
observed. The application field perimeter was walked to observe application and buffer setbacks. The required 25 feet from
surface water diversions/waterways/ditches, as well as the required 100' setback from wells was being maintained. The
farmer indicated that Bermuda hay and millet would be the crops grown. The other fields on the farm that are planned for
application were also observed. On May 29, 2019 Bio Green provided the field loading records with associated nutrient
loading rates. Nutrient loading (Plant Available Nitrogen -PAN) rates were within agronomic rates in accordance with
requirements based on the determined Realistic Yield Expectations (RYE).
